Where do I even begin?! I knew from the very first email that landed in my inbox, that I was going to adore Nancy and Seth. How could I not, when her email read, “Pictures are our top priority. Seriously, how much fun would it be to run around Italy in a wedding dress, say vows to each other without lots of people staring at you, and get gorgeous pics! I know this sounds odd, but I already like you, and I know we would have so much fun!”
The following week, we met over wine at a bar in Minneapolis, I found out Nancy and Seth are even cooler in person! We immediately started planning their destination elopement. The exact location was up in the air, but c’mon, anywhere in Italy would be beautiful! Eventually the couple settled on the island of Capri, after finding the perfect place to say “I do.”
Fast forward several months, and we were on a plane to Italy! Some elements were the same as a traditional wedding day- the bride and groom prepared in separate hotel rooms; they had a joyful, excited first look. But then we spent hours and hours exploring the island and finding cute little nooks to photograph. Of course, there’s no shortage of locations on Capri! We stopped for gelato, wandered the quaint alleyways, and the locals surprised us with champagne toasts and rounds of applause in the streets.
We ended the day with a sunset ceremony on the balcony of their hotel room overlooking the sea. I literally had tears streaming down my face. I was honored to have been their witness and sign their marriage license- a first for me as a wedding photographer! The weather had been perfect all day, but during the ceremony, the skies started to darken. It seemed as though it would storm at any minute. Literally 5 minutes after the ceremony ended, the island was hit with a crazy tropical downpour that lasted the entire night. After the ceremony, Nancy & Seth enjoyed a private dinner while my assistant & I dashed home in the rain, drank wine, ate pizza, and reminisced about what a crazy, amazing day it had been.
Nancy & Seth, I can’t wait to see what adventures life brings your way! I hope you look back on your day 50 years from now and think about how young, crazy, and in love you were. The whole experience was a dream for me too, and I can’t thank you enough for trusting me to document your day.
