The Hally family reached out when they were planning a special family trip to the Big Island of Hawaii. Grandma and Grandpa, their three kids + spouses, and their four grandkids were traveling together. It was a once-in-a-lifetime trip, and they wanted professional photos to commemorate the occasion.

Traveling from Oahu to the Big Island

Though I live on Oahu, I love traveling inter-island for sessions, and the Big Island, Maui, or Kauai, are just a quick flight away! I’ve grown so accustomed to day trips for sessions, and I have a system down to ensure everything goes as smoothly as possible. I know just where to park at the Honolulu airport, I breeze through security with TSA pre-check, and I don’t normally go to Starbucks, but I always treat myself to a iced chai latte at the airport before boarding my flight!

And even though I know the islands in and out, I always arrive extra, extra early when traveling so I have time to scope out our predetermined locations in person. I check weather conditions, tides, parking, etc. to make sure our location is perfect, and I always have a plan b (and plan c) just in case! I also like to explore and check out new places for future sessions. Getting to travel to the other islands is such a treat, as each island has its own unique vibe.

Photographing extended family sessions

When shooting extended family sessions, I’m always sure to get allllll the different combos, so we have pics of the whole group, grandma & grandpa with the grandkids, the grandkids alone, each individual family, etc.! We get alllll the photos! ;) Mahalo to the beautiful Hally family for trusting me to capture this special trip! I hope to see you back in Hawaii soon!
