North Shore Sunrise Session in Laie

NORTH SHORE, OAHU FAMILY PHOTOGRAPHER

The Grinnell family reached out when they were planning their trip to Oahu with their two young boys, Henry and Leo. They were planning their stay on the gorgeous North Shore of the island. Though they were willing to drive anywhere for an amazing locations, luckily there are dozens of gorgeous beaches right near their accommodations. Sunrise sessions start really early (start time between 5:45 and 7:00 AM, depending on the time of year; you can check sunrise and sunset times here), so planning somewhere with a short drive is helpful, especially for little kids.

THE PERFECT LOCATION

We decided on Laie Beach Park for their session. It’s a beautiful, long sandy beach which faces east, for direct views of sunrise. This beach also features views of the green Hawaiian mountains in the distance, and there are dramatic cliffs on one end of the beach. It’s usually quite empty in the mornings and we had the entire beach all to ourselves!

The morning of their session was a bit cloudy, and very windy. And even a bit cold! But the Grinnell family totally embraced it and just had fun cuddling their boys, running up and down the beach, tossing them in the air, and swinging them all around. Henry and Leo were total troopers, and Leo even recuperated after getting soaked by a big rogue wave, and still gave us lots of smiles. (Don’t worry parents, it happens at almost every session! Especially at the end, when we’ve gotten all the shots we need to get, and we’re more apt to just let the kids run and play in the waters edge!)
