Meet Alisha & Dakota! I was so excited when they hired me to capture their Big Island maternity session on film. Alisha is a photographer herself, and it’s always such an honor to document other photographers. Especially at such an incredibly exciting and special time in their lives. Alisha & Dakota were anxiously awaiting the arrival of their first child; a sweet baby boy! Alisha was absolutely glowing and I love capturing mamas-to-be!
For their session, they were willing to drive anywhere, and I mean anywhere. The Big Island is huge! We started at one of the most beautiful spots on Hawai’i island – Punalu’u Black Sand Beach, for a truly unique backdrop. Punalu’u is remote. Far from where most tourists stay, and far from the airports. But it’s worth the drive. Not only is the black sand so different, but the palm tree groves surrounding the beach are gorgeous as well. The perfect backdrop for photos. After shooting at Punalu’u, we headed back to Kona (a 1.5 hour drive away) and finished their maternity session at Old Kona Airport Beach. This beach is one of my favorite spots on the Kona coast, and is an amazing location all on its own. Black rock mixed with white sand, the mountainous slopes rising in the background, and glowing sunset views. Of all the Hawaiian Islands, I’ve seen the best sunsets on the Big Island.
Alisha & Dakota, thank you for trusting me to capture your maternity session and for your willingness to drive around the island with me! Since our session, they’ve welcomed their son, Coast Conrad White. The world will never be the same! Enjoy some of my favorites from their session:
