Payton & Aaron | Engagement Session at Makapu’u Beach

OAHU ENGAGEMENT SESSION

Last week, I celebrated my six month anniversary of moving to Oahu!

I remember the last week on the mainland so vividly. Frazzled would be an understatement. Packing up the Chicago apartment, cleaning and checking out, trying to stuff my small car with 5 checked bags, 2 overstuffed carryons, 2 adults, and 1 dog. Saying goodbye to snowy Chicago, and driving to Minneapolis, then Denver, then Las Vegas, then Los Angeles. Shipping the car. Overnight in one last hotel before an early morning flight to Hawaii. Comically trying to finagle 5 checked bags, 2 overstuffed carryons, and one dog. Thankfully checking them in and only dealing with the carryons and the dog. Arriving in Hawaii, wide eyed and so tired. Reluctantly retrieving the 5 checked bags. Renting a car, and “moving in” to a hotel. Trying to find an apartment as quickly as possible.

But it was all worth it.

Hawaii is a dream. It’s been such an adventure and my favorite thing is discovering new places – beaches, hikes, restaurants, you name it! Hawaii has endless places to discover!

So I was super excited to photograph the lovely Payton and Aaron at a brand-new-to-me location; Makapu’u Beach on Hawaii’s windward side. Special thanks to my friend, Ashley, for letting me tag along on this shoot and introducing me to this beautiful couple! I’ve since been to Makapu’u a handful of times, just to enjoy the beach with my pup, and I have to say, though sunsets are always pretty, the lighting is so so beautiful at sunrise. It was misty and magical. And though it was a bit chilly so early in the morning, Payton & Aaron embraced it all, splashing in the water, laughing and kissing, and just generally being the most adorable couple ever!
