The Kawahara crew is officially my longest running family client on Oahu! I just love them so much and am SO HONORED to have captured their family photos while they come to visit Oahu year after year! I started photographing them shortly after I moved to Oahu in 2018, back when they were just a family of four, and their son was an infant. You can see our first session together in 2019, then 2021 and 2022. For their 2023 family photos, mom Meg and I wanted to come up with a totally new location for these seasoned Oahu visitors, and their trip to Disney’s Aulani Resort for a family wedding provided the perfect backdrop. They normally stay in Honolulu, but being on the west side was the prefect excuse to shoot in this new location, and meant they wouldn’t have to go far for sunrise with three littles – this beach is just a few minutes walk from the Aulani. I always work with my clients to make sure we come up with the perfect location that suits their needs, and if you need to be close to your accommodations for the kids – I get it!

I love shooting at this location at sunrise for the pretty pastel colors and the quiet, empty beaches. This spot does get gorgeous sunsets as it faces due west, but it also gets really crowded, and as a film photographer herself, Meg knows the value of having a private spot where the kids can run and play. She also understands that they often do best in the mornings before they get worn out from a day of sun and salt water!
